January 7, 2011: California IVF: Davis Fertility Center Awarded 3 Year Accreditation for Quality of Care Provided to Patients Struggling with Infertility

DAVIS, Calif., Jan. 7 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- The Northern California infertility treatment specialists at California IVF: Davis Fertility Center, Inc. (www.californiaivf.com) have been awarded a 3 year accreditation by the Institute of Medical Quality (www.imq.org). IMQ, a San Francisco based non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of patient care, recently completed a thorough on-site inspection of the local Sacramento area fertility clinic.

During the review, the quality of infertility treatment options provided by its local fertility doctors was reviewed and its facility including the in vitro fertilization (IVF) laboratory was inspected as part of the fertility center’s commitment to providing a high-level of patient satisfaction to couples struggling to get pregnant and trying to conceive.

California IVF infertility specialist Dr. Ernest Zeringue says, “I am proud of our IMQ accreditation and hope the quality of care for our patient family continues to improve with each successful pregnancy that is the result of infertility treatments performed at our local fertility clinic.”

October 5, 2010: Failed IVF Fertility Patients Considering an Egg Donor or Adoption Now Have a New and Affordable Pregnancy Alternative

DAVIS, Calif., Oct. 5 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- California IVF: Davis Fertility Center, Inc. is proud to announce the California Conceptions Donated Embryo program, a new and innovative anonymous embryo donation program that will help struggling IVF patients get pregnant quickly (californiaconceptions.com).

When compared with current embryo donation and adoption programs, California Conceptions is unique because most intended parents will not have to wait for years to get pregnant. Most failed IVF patients who join this program will be matched with anonymously donated embryos within 6 months of submitting a recipient profile and qualify for a refund if they do not achieve a successful clinical pregnancy.

California IVF Director Dr. Ernest Zeringue says, "The California Conceptions donated embryo program is a great alternative to egg donation and adoption. Most infertility patients are not able to get pregnant because of egg and sperm quality issues. But these genetic factors have nothing do with a women's ability to carry a successful pregnancy. For patients who believe that genetics do not necessarily make us parents, anonymously donated embryos offer failed IVF patients an additional chance to experience pregnancy and the birth of a child."

About California IVF: Davis Fertility Center, Inc.:
California IVF is a local fertility clinic of choice for many infertility patients in the Greater Sacramento, Roseville, Fairfield and San Francisco Bay areas. Advanced infertility services such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), donor sperm and donor eggs, embryo freezing or cryopreservation, ICSI, and other treatments for both male and female infertility are offered at its Northern California fertility center.

The California Conceptions Donated Embryo program (californiaconceptions.com) provides an egg donor and adoption alternative to failed IVF patients from around the world. The staff includes a team of Sacramento fertility doctors and experienced embryologists who are skilled at performing pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) and screening (PGS).

Centrally located between the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Lake Tahoe, San Francisco Bay Area, Silicon Valley, Napa Valley and The Pacific, fertility center patients from other states and countries have access to many Northern California travel destinations.

August 17, 2010: Fertility Patients Can Now Use One Screening for Multiple Types of Genetic Diseases Before Pregnancy

Tue, 10 Aug 2010, 08:59:49 EDT Edited by Debra Tone DAVIS, Calif., Aug. 10 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) --

California IVF: Davis Fertility Center, Inc. (californiaivf.com), working in conjunction with Gene Security Network (genesecurity.net) leads the field in bringing a new test to patients that combines the detection of single-gene genetic disorders with a 24 chromosome screening.

Using Gene Security Network's Parental Support™ technology, at-risk couples undergoing in vitro fertilization can now test developing embryos for a larger number of hereditary diseases before implantation and pregnancy. This pre-implantation genetic screening/diagnosis (PGD/PGS) tests for single gene disorders like Sickle Cell and chromosomal abnormalities like Down Syndrome with a single cell from each embryo. This is the first commercial application of these combined screenings.

California IVF Director Dr. Ernest Zeringue says, "In the next 5-10 years, this type of test will become routine at IVF clinics, but at the moment, it is still cutting edge technology. This test offers at risk couples an additional tool for increasing their chance of pregnancy while minimizing the risk of having a baby with a genetic disorder."

Fertility Expert Available to Discuss "Designer Babies"

DAVIS, CALIFORNIA, March 3, 2009 A story making national news this week about a Los Angeles fertility clinic offering "designer babies" is bringing up ethical and moral debates about new technology fertility services. Ernest J. Zeringue M.D. (zerang) is an infertility specialist and founder of California IVF: Davis Fertility Center, Inc., in Davis, California - www.californiaIVF.com - (530) 771-0177. California IVF offers genetic screening services including gender screening. Dr. Zeringue is available to discuss the science, technical and bio ethical issues associated with genetic screening & alteration, infertility, In Vitro Fertilization and other family related issues.

Some Issues in the news being discussed and the questions they raise:

What is PGD?

PGD, or preimplantation genetic diagnosis, is a technique used to screen embryos for specific genetic abnormalities that can lead to diseases in babies or prevent successful fertility treatments. The application of genetics in the field of infertility has been increasing at a rapid pace and careful oversight is needed to prevent unintended application of technology.

Is it ethical to pre-select genetic traits and gender?

What is the science behind genetic screening and gender selection?

What are the cultural implications? Are certain cultures more likely to use PGD for family balancing?

What is family balancing?

What are the costs and success rates of PGD?

What is the actual demand for PGD? What percentage of PGD is used for
a) "scanning the DNA for certain diseases, such as Tay-Sachs, Downs syndrome and a predisposition for certain types of cancer."
b) gender (family balancing)
c) blue eyes, blonde hair, height

What type of changes are on the horizon for genetic screening?

Can genetic screening eliminate all types of birth defects or problems? Has PGD improved the success of in vitro fertilization.

Fertility Expert Available to Discuss Current Issues

DAVIS, CALIFORNIA, FEBRUARY 4, 2009 In a story that's captured international attention, Nadia Suleman, the mother of six children, gave birth to octuplets in Bellflower, California. News outlets are reporting that Nadia used some form of fertility treatment resulting in the eight babies. Moral, ethical, social and economic issues have been raised as a result of this event.

Ernest J. Zeringue M.D. (zerang) is an infertility specialist and founder of California IVF: Davis Fertility Center, Inc., in Davis, California - www.californiaIVF.com - (530) 771-0177. Dr. Zeringue is available to discuss the science, technical and bio ethical issues associated with infertility, In Vitro Fertilization and other family related issues.

Some Issues in the news being Discussed:

Is it ethical to have 8 babies?

>Fertility specialists are charged with the responsibility of transferring embryos to increase the chances of pregnancy while minimizing the risks of multiples. There are guidelines established to help improve the safety of infertility treatments for mothers and their babies. Ignoring these guidelines could raise serious ethical concerns.

>It is not the role of the fertility specialist to decide how many children a person should have or decide if the parents are capable of being good parents. There are no established criteria for parenting. Our focus is to ensure the safety of our patients and their pregnancy by transferring a number of embryos that is considered "safe". Various extenuating circumstances may influence the number of embryos transferred.

How could she get pregnant with 8 babies?

>During IVF treatments we realize that more than half of the embryos we are working with will not have the potential to make a pregnancy. Even when an embryo is considered normal, there are still many barriers that will prevent that embryo from becoming a baby. Even with 8 embryos transferred, it is highly unlikely that 8 babies would result. As our technology improves, we will be better able to assess the potential of an embryo to make a baby before it is ever transferred into the uterus of the hopeful mother. This will allow fewer embryos to be used while increasing the success of each transfer.

What do you do with the remaining embryos?

>Supernumary embryos – "the left overs" Many people are concerned about what to do with the extras and this woman (Nadia) didn't want to have them go unused… there are options such as transferring them, discarding them, donating to another couple, or donating to research. Many people don't know embryos can be frozen for later IVF treatment.

What makes a women want more children?

>Maternal drive for pregnancy – it's an ingrained or hard wired drive that is at the core of a woman's nature. Women will often minimize the potential risk in the desire to become pregnant and this desire is not reduced by having other children. It is very difficult for men to understand this innate drive and this often leads to disagreements and additional stress on relationships.

In Vitro Fertilization, Egg & Sperm Donor Programs, Tubal Reversal, and Genetic Screening of Embryos.

March 20, 2008: Local Infertility Specialist Expands Women's Services to Solano County

Infertility specialist Ernest Zeringue, M.D. is now seeing patients in Solano County through Sutter Regional Medical Foundation (SRMF).

Dr. Zeringue is the founder of California IVF: Davis Fertility Center, Inc. His practice includes infertility services such as in vitro fertilization, advanced genetic testing, men's infertility and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Dr. Zeringue also performs a number of gynecological procedures, such as female tubal reversal, at Sutter Fairfield Surgery Center. The procedure, which is often considered by insurance companies to be an elective procedure and paid for on a cash basis, is offered by only a handful of doctors in the U.S.

"We're unique in offering tubal reversal. By using the outpatient surgery center this cost model allows more people to consider the surgery as an option. I see people who are coming from all over the West Coast, some even from the East Coast," Dr. Zeringue says.

With the addition of Dr. Zeringue, SRMF is able to further expand its services for women and men who struggle with fertility. His medical services add to the entire scope of services in women's health care now available through SRMF- including urogynecology, infertility, adolescent gynecology, and low and high risk obstetrics care.

In addition, Dr. Zeringue's research interests include insulin resistance as it relates to weight and infertility problems. He has successfully implemented a diet regimen that has been extremely effective in helping women conceive or improve their odds.

"With new infertility technology and increased fertility rates, it is fairly uncommon that we can't find options for pregnancies," Dr. Zeringue says.

Dr. Zeringue received his undergraduate degree from College of Charleston in S.C. and his M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina. His obstetrics and gynecology residency was completed at Keesler Air Force Base. Following residency, he attended fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Duke University in Durham, N.C. He then served for four years as the Division Chief of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base.

Dr. Zeringue is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists; American Society for Reproductive Medicine; and the Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

Patients who visit California IVF: Davis Fertility Center often tell the doctor they feel more comfortable at the clinic, says Dr. Zeringue. "What sets us apart is that there's much more of a family atmosphere here," Dr. Zeringue says, adding that he and his wife Alisa, who also works as a nurse at the fertility center, have three daughters. "Patients undergo stressful procedures here, and we can help to take the burden off them."

Dr. Zeringue's office is located at California IVF: Davis Fertility Center, 1550 Drew Ave. Suite 100, in Davis. The phone number is 530-771-0177.
